"Hmmm..."

Well, the art is lovely, especially when I'm tripping mushrooms, but most of the levels are generic. The whole system is get from one level to another. There is no overarching plot or storyline, which is needed to hook the player to have some purpose.

And many of the levels are annoying. Not because of the level design, that was done very well to make players TIME things. But, it is annoying because of the poor collision detection. Most of the puzzles are ruined by the physics engine. It's quite amazing that this was all done from scratch in AS2. but because it isn't object-oriented, it is hard to build on it. So you'll have to rebuild your base from scratch in your next game.

My main annoyance was in the last few levels. Like 26: I died so many times because the collision against things are improper. A game that has errors in it, ruins the whole experience. And to top it all off, after I finished the last level, I got a dissatisfying credits.

But other than that the movement and feel is very good. Please try to make more of a solid working base and purpose in your future games, otherwise people will just quit in the middle of your games.

Author's Response:

hey Eammy,

Thanks for the review, actually i put it together quite well so i might be able to edit the collision detection even though its not OOP. Your the first one to say you have found the secret level, NICE! I always wanted to put in some kind of cutscene or intro that would establish a plot but for this one there is no story line sadly. Well maybe i can put some more storyline in the sequel. I am going to try and make a new system for collision detection, and since i learned a lot from this one i think it might go pretty well. Soon i might plan on upgrading to AS3 so i can you all that fancy stuff. Thanks for the lengthy review.

"This is a work of art..."

This has to be one of the best Flash movies I've seen so far. It's brilliant, and is suited for nearly all ages. I love the animation and sound quality, and the whole premise. I'm sure this would work great as a series...

The coloring and lighting for the different scenes really set the mood. It really is better than most of the animated stuff I see on TV. There are so many entertaining moments in this one movie. It has comedy, drama, action, and fighting robots. There isn't much more I could ask for. The animation, like I said before, is brilliant, and surprisingly smooth for a Flash movie. Everything is clean and shiny. And the way that the animation syncs with the music, including the credit sequence! There is so much to learn from this movie. SO MUCH GOLD!!!

There is so much detail into the backgrounds, and characters. The particle effects, and lighting mixed with that makes this a beautiful work of art. And the end sequence brings up anticipation of even more epicness to come! :D

Thank you for creating such a masterpiece!

Castle Repercussions - D2

"This is a wonderful series..."

date: August 28, 2009

This is a review of all the Repercussions parts, because there are so many! This is not counting Castle 2 and all of Castle 3's parts, but people need to remember that this series is epic for Flash, and that it takes time to create such marvelous works. So even though not all the questions were answered, I am happy to be patient with Oscar, while I work on my own things... besides, it is great that Oscar put a level of suspense and mystery to the series. It just makes it even more epic!

Now, to begin with PART A.

I was very pleased with the beginning sequence, where I got to see the world of Earth. Sure, there wasn't much going on, but that wasn't the point. The point is to create the environment, so that there is a comparison with the next scenes in the Castle. Now, Repercussions is wonderful at creating horror and tension. You see this when Ray is being tortured into seeing things that are not there, and being told nasty things. (??? is like some sort of cruel bully)

PART B

This part shines in creating a desolate atmosphere. I should mention the music. The custom music provided here is astounding. It's like a real movie. And the music is so wonderful at each situation, whether it's horror, tension, action, or isolation. This part is really good at isolation. Not to give anything away, but being trapped in a helicopter on a vast plain in a world of doom is pretty devastating. I mean, it makes you think if you'll ever get out of here. (This theme also occurs in later parts)

PART C

I should mention that each part focuses on a specific character that was left behind. This is a great idea, to add a level of characterization. The Castle 3, there wasn't much of that, meaning you wouldn't care much if the generic soldiers died, but these parts really make you feel for them, that they are being used in some sort of conspiracy. In this part, the beginning flashback sequence confused me (though once I watched part D, I was like "Ah, I get it. I see what you did there..." The parts don't exactly follow a continuous time line.) Anyway, this part is more themed at one person vs a thousand freaks. The theme is action. He is characterized as a tough guy (He smokes and is the only one with facial hair, which kinda adds effect). The animation is wonderful, and in the later scene where he escapes and falls outside, shows very good atmosphere and lighting. I'm kind of confused with ???'s intentions. I mean, ??? wants to go to earth, but seems to be attempting to kill the only people who can take him there. Seems a bit contradictory, unless I'm missing something.

PART D1

I like how the individual parts mesh up to each other to make a nice seamless storyline. Takes a bit of thinking, but it's worth it. Anyway, like in Castle 3 Part D, this Part D has lot's of action and epic-ness to it. I should really praise the animation quality here. Oscar has done a wonderful job. I really like the chase sequence in this part. Now, you may have realized that it's a stick figure movie, but when it's done at this level of quality, I don't care. The movements are awesome. I really liked the last bit with the super-creepy zombies, and their un-human movements. That was done really well, and the music was epic through the entire thing. I'm amazed at Boomer's super-human strength. He doesn't have bulging muscles like the last demon from Part A, so how can he toss humans around like playthings?! He is emphasized as being a leader...

PARTD2

This part is great. The beginning is peaceful, but shows you around the Castle, and the world, giving more atmosphere to it. (The atmosphere to this series is just brilliant) I have some gripes where in the more intense scenes, it lags. Even putting it at low quality doesn't help much. Maybe too many filters? Anyway, that doesn't matter much, because the ending sequence is beautiful, where the pressure is intense, and everything wraps up in a neat little package.

This series is a masterpiece of flash work, where there is so much quality in every aspect. The storyline is real addictive, and I look forward to more.
